We recently hosted an online trade event with our paint partners, Sherwin-Williams to unveil their 2022 Color of the Year. In a climate where the anxieties and stress of the worldwide pandemic have yet to fade, color experts have found that homeowners and designers are turning to shades of green to help make their spaces feel more grounded and secure. Naturally, Sherwin-Williams found their 2022 inspiration in Evergreen Fog (SW 9130), a versatile and calming hue of green-meets-gray, with just a bit of blue.

Evergreen Fog SW 9130 is a restorative shade that breathes freshness into modern interiors.

Sherwin-Williams' Director of Color Marketing, Sue Wadden, sat down with Rejuvenation’s Director of Creative Services, Meghan Guthrie, and Textile & Color Designer, Courtney Crews, to explain the Sherwin-Williams color forecasting team's yearlong process of choosing their Color of the Year. “Color forecasting is comprised of research, science, and testing,” explained Wadden. “It’s both a highly technical practice and an art.” This year, the process also included attending both virtual and in-person trade shows with other color experts.

After the team came together to present their choices, choosing Evergreen Fog was an easy decision. “For Evergreen Fog and much of our color trend forecaster’s overarching trend, the pandemic certainly influenced where we are with colors. Consumers were seeking nourishing, meaningful, reassuring, and healing colors,” shared Wadden, adding that organic, nature-inspired palettes like warm brown and cool green tones were essential to achieving a restorative state and satisfying a need for “energizing positivity.” In the coming years, color will continue to trend towards supporting physical and emotional wellbeing—a notion that ties in with the popularity of biophilic design.

Evergreen Fog is already proving to be a popular choice for consumers in the coming year. The simple but sophisticated wash of beautiful, organic color is perfect for spaces that crave a subtle yet stunning statement shade—from children's rooms and home exteriors, to commercial spaces.
