Colonial Revival 1905–1935

A century after the Colonists became Americans, a new generation returned to its roots by reviving early-American style. Colonial Revival design was an aesthetic embodiment of the American ideals: balanced, dignified, and not-too-rarified. Candle sconces and lanterns recalled the time when flames were the only light source; cast details and shapely curves reflect an appreciation for refinement and harmony. Still another century later, the current generation is discovering that any home – from cottages to bungalows to ranches – can wear this comfortable, patriotic style.
