Deco 1925–1950

The Depression. Hollywood. Prohibition. The Jazz Age. Americans witnessed a dizzying series of ups and downs in the 1920s and ’30s. During this time, the world of design was changing rapidly, too, thanks to the availability of new materials and the idea – imported from Paris – that only future-looking style would do. Traditionalism and references to the past were out. Curvy silhouettes, romantic flourishes, and gleaming finishes defined Deco lighting then – and those same details will define any space today.

DETAILS TO LOOK FOR: Cast-glass slipper shades, stepped skyscraper profiles, louvers
